Robert Lyle (Bob) Helvoigt, 90, of Toledo Ohio passed away peacefully on August 13, 2017 at Parkcliffe Community.  He was born on June 1, 1927 in Toledo to Edward and Gertrude Helvoigt.  Bob was a 1945 graduate of Libbey High School.  He was a United States Marine who served with pride in WWII from 1945-1949.  He was a member of the American Legion Post and the VFW post.  He began his 42 year career as a bus driver at Community Traction here in Toledo in 1949 which later became TARTA, retiring June 1, 1991.

Bob is survived by his 10 children; Phyllis (Doug) Lawrence, Pam Kreamer, Robert Helvoigt II, Allen Lloyd, Marsha Fisher, Cherie White, Julie (Bob) Hays, Mike (Sally) Helvoigt, Shelli (Dave) Delong and Jodi Helvoigt, 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 5 great great-grand children and  his former wife Barbara Helvoigt.  Robert was preceded in death by his mother and father, one son, his six siblings and two former wives, the mothers of his children, Artist Eugenia and Carolyn Jane Helvoigt.

Bob was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Lions, Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Indians.  He also enjoyed playing cards with TARTA Retirees, taking trips to Florida with his friends, fishing with his brother and of course watching LAW & ORDER SVU, especially Olivia. Bob was blessed with many close friends and nobody was a “stranger” to him.

Visitation at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Road (at Jackman Rd.) Temperance, MI. will begin on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 11:00am with services at 1:00pm. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, Toledo, Ohio

The family wishes to thank all of the caregivers and nurses at Parkcliffe Community and Promedica Hospice for their care and support during his final journey.
